I would like do more research on the salt trade and Taghaza. I find it interesting that there was so much salt and that it was an entity at the time. I'm just curious to find out who worked in the salt mines. I would also like to look at what the conditions were like within the mines.

I want to study about gold in Africa. Mansa Musa is described in the readings as carrying gold staffs and being very rich. Ghana in particular was known as "The City of Gold." Along with salt, gold was clearly very important to the lives and economy of the Africans. It was also very important to the European colonizers.

I am interested in learning more about Gertrude Caton-Thompson. I think it is very interesting how she led the first all woman excavation. I also thought it was interesting that although she found that the ruins were of African origin and even compared them to ancient sites, the myth of a foreign origin of Zimbabwe continued on.

I am interested on doing my paper on salt mines and the importance of salt. I think it is interesting how salt was so valuable and important at that time. I want to find out more about who were the miners and where some of the mines were. I also might write a bit about salt trade.

I want to write my paper on the trade in Africa. I'm interested in what kind of trade happened in Great Zimbabwe because they are so much closer in Asia. If Great Zimbabwe did trade with Asia did they have boats? I also want to learn if W. Africa ever traded with Great Zimbabwe or if they even knew each other existed.

My topic is the Dutch colonizing South America and the Boer wars in South America. Since I am Dutch, I think it important to know the history of my ancestors. Someone in my family could have fought or lived in South America. The war was between the Boers (Dutch settlers) and the British.

I am interested in learning about diamonds, gold and salt; how they came out, how they were traded; when they began and their existance today. I want to learn not only about how these valuable items were founded, accessed and traded back then; but also how all of those things are founded, accessed and traded today. I would like to focus on where these items were mined, traded and sold during the period we are studying.

I am interested in learning more about Mansa Musa. He was a seriously rich king of the Mali Empire. In 1324, he made a pilgrimage to Mecca, known as the Hajj. I have heard that he drew attention to Western Africa because of the amount of gold he and his followers were carrying. I would like to know more about the effect his pilgrimage had on the world.

I'm interested in the Islamic centers of knowledge in the kingdom of Mali. I want to know if cities like Timbuktu resembled middle eastern hubs like Baghdad (in terms of things like books and beauty). Also, I want to know if there are any well known buildings there. Finally, I'm curious to know how big a role the Islamic religion played on it, since most of Mali wasn't Islamic.

I would like to explore African music and dance. I would like to look at different instruments, and how they influenced dance. Music is a very important part of my life, and I would love to learn more about other cultures and how music, the universal language, is different. Did they document music in notes?

I would like to do more research on the Trans-Saharan Slave Trade. I got interested in this because my culture came from Africa and I was wondering how the slave trade was with in the african culture. I'm very curious to know how much slavery was apart of the Afican culture. Also how did it effect the poeple that were inslaved.

From the beginning of Africa’s modern history it has been a major target for colonialists.Countless Counties from Europe settled almost all of Africa, so Africa had a long period under the rule of other nations. What I am wondering is how colonization has stunted the growth of Africa and how it has caused African nations to have a hard time switching to democracy. African nations are some of the poorest in the world and often times have cases of internal conflict such as war-lordship, Civil War, and even Genocide. Basically what I want to learn is: What are the long term effects of European colonization of Africa?
